Tangere. 2022-2023
This project aims to explore, through theoretical research and practical experimentation, touch in both literal and figural ways. The purpose is to open alternative multispecies imaginaries and to establish new relations between technology and life in more than human worlds.

Tangere stems from the necessity of unfolding and problematizing the idea of touch as a consenting act between individuals to explore what it has been hidden behind politics of representation. From a point of view where looking towards a deeper awareness of the embodied character of perception, affect, and thinking can allow us to approach our environment and the multiple ecosystems from another perspective, it pretends to embrace and explore the interrelation of different sensorial universes we are surrounded with, and it wonders: which kind of alternative relations could we open with a broaden narrative of touch?

According to the physics explanation, touching does not involve contact. Electrons are negatively charged particles, so what we understand as “touch” is the electromagnetic repulsion force between them. So then: what does touch mean? If we have never been in contact, when have we begun to touch each other?

Therefore, in times of looking upwards, towards space and the stars, it is proposed to put the focus of attention on what we have next to us, on what remains unnoticed just under our feet. Following an investigation as following
a crack into the centre of the rocks, into what slips between the meanings of words, into the minimal space between electrons that will never have contact, but which are always in touch.
